Garage Sales Still Not Allowed (3/10/09) - Following the 2008 Annual Meeting, a proxy was sent to all homeowners to vote regarding allowing garage sales in Northwood. By the close of voting, there were not enough votes to change the current HOA restriction against garage sales. Therefore, garage sales are still not allowed in Northwood Estates.
Annual Meeting Results (11/18/08) - 84 homeowners attended the annual meeting, representing 63 lots. Another 46 homeowners voted by written proxy. Voting on the proposals was as follows: The proposal to allow school support signs passed by a vote of 88 to 22. The proposal to create a new restriction to prevent vehicles from parking on the grassy part of lots passed 84 to 17. The proposal to impose a $25 fine after a second violation failed to pass with 49 votes for and 53 against. Therefore the board will continue it's policy of pursuing court action after repeated homeowner violation of the same restriction. Finally, the proposals regarding garage sales were narrowed to two choices - no garage sales allowed and 2 garages sales allowed. A "run-off" proxy is being mailed out. Thanks again for your record participation in this years annual meeting.

Unlawful Solicitations - From time to time their are solicitors in the neighborhood selling magazine subscriptions or offering to sell/test items such as vacuum cleaners or alarm systems.
Per the Lake Jackson Code of Ordinance, "It shall be unlawful for any person to go in and upon the premises of a private residence in the city unless requested or invited so to do by the owner or occupant of such private residence for the purpose of soliciting, selling or taking orders for or offering to sell or take orders for any goods, wares, merchandise, services, photographs, newspapers or magazines, or subscriptions to newspapers or magazines. The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to persons engaged in interstate commerce; provided, however, it shall be unlawful for persons engaged in interstate commerce to go from house to house or place to place in the city without having first registered with the city manager."
If a solicitor comes to your door, the first thing you should ask to see is their permit from the city. If they cannot produce it, you should report them to the city code enforcement officer (979-415-2400) or the police (979-415-2700).
